The Voice as a Leadership Tool: when the body enables the mind to work better.

written by Kristin Sax-Jansen

The voice never lies

In a professional world where communication is omnipresent (virtual meetings, strategic presentations, complex negotiations, group chats), the voice is no longer a secondary element. It has become a major asset for any manager wishing to gain in impact, leadership and assertiveness.

A powerful leadership tool

The voice is the most powerful communication tool we have. The product of our unique vocal anatomy, it carries our identity, our culture, our origins. Much more than a simple vector of words, it reveals our intentions, our fears, our ambitions. Directly linked to our body and emotions, it is an inexhaustible source of information in interpersonal relations.
Working on your voice goes beyond mastering a simple "soft skill". It's a way of reconnecting with yourself so you can better connect with others. It's a lever for personal and professional growth which, to function fully, needs to be harmoniously balanced between the "head" (mental), the "heart" (emotions) and the "body" (physical).

At the heart of our emotions

The voice is directly linked to our deepest emotions. When we communicate, our right brain processes the melody of the voice, the emotional state and identity of our interlocutor, while our left brain analyzes the linguistic part.
Who hasn't felt betrayed by his or her own voice conveying emotions of nervousness or anxiety? The intonation changes imperceptibly, the flow quickens, the voice trembles. Conversely, when we're confident, our voice "sings" like a harmonious melody.

The body at the service of the mind

High-performance executives not only seek to harmonize emotions and behaviors. They also mobilize their bodies, which are increasingly involved in professional issues (stress, fatigue, risk of exhaustion).
Voice coaching helps to reinvest this physical field. By stimulating mainly the body, the leader puts the mental field - often overused - to sleep, to rebalance all its dimensions.

Tangible results

A marketing director we coached confirms: "During the exercises, I wasn't sure where I stood, but my body told me it was doing me good. Today, I'm confident in my voice and I'm never asked to repeat myself again."
An audit manager in a multinational shares: "The biggest benefit is greater confidence & assertiveness. It's gone way beyond my expectations. I've mastered the technical tools and they're easy to maintain over time. And I feel better equipped to face tomorrow's major challenges.

A holistic approach

If the initial request is often linked to a lack of vocal range or fatigue during presentations, vocal coaching quickly evolves into a more global support: interpersonal communication, values, limiting beliefs, stress management, self-esteem.

The approach consists in "erasing appearances and replacing them with being". Leaders learn to be authentic to themselves, and therefore to others. They develop new physical and intellectual resources, engaging their whole being in the service of more effective and lasting leadership.

In a demanding professional environment where communication is crucial, mastering your voice is a strategic asset for any manager wishing to fully embody his or her leadership.

Counseling for Balance - The Art of Business Transformation

When I sing Zarastro in The Magic Flute, I experience this fascinating duality: the score remains immutable, but each performance is unique. The acoustics of the hall, the energy of the orchestra, my own disposition and, above all, the audience's reactions profoundly transform the interpretation. This musical alchemy finds its perfect echo in my consulting work with corporate executives.
